Honestly while scavenging across the internet, I had no idea where to start for a topic or even a clue of what topic I wanted to research. I was little lost and quite overwhelmed from all the possible topics. A major issue I had during the research was finding a topic that I could write a potential six pages on but that I was also passionate about, therefore would make it easier to write the potential six pages. As I was looking on BBC, I noticed the title "Sahle-Work Zewde becomes Ethiopia's first female president" and I immediately felt that this event would be very impactful for women, especially within Ethiopia/Africa. Although I have never been to Ethiopia, or out of our the country rather, I would like to one day travel and see the beautiful nature side of the country. Traveling to Africa is definitely on my bucket list. My research question for this project came pretty easy in the sense that I was curious about the extent to which this would affect feminism or just everyday life for women in Ethiopia. I wanted to dive in and discover if this would create an impact on women in government. I believe that one day more women will be in their state or country government and will be equal to men in this sense; this prediction is reasonable because women right now are beginning to get more involved in their governments. This question slowly progressed into my thesis by looking at how women's rights within Ethiopia are currently and how Zewde's role could potentially shift these ideas. Her role is shifting the meaning of a female leader and is influencing others to take over higher powers. I wanted to answer my question in a way that demonstrated her impact and demonstrated all the good she was doing. While conducting my research and filling in my notecards, another issue I encountered was that many of the websites and periodicals I was using had most of the same information. While going through all the websites I would come across the same idea or thought just in different wording. Many writers were looking at the presidency in a similar light and all seemed to agree that her presidency would create a domino effect within women's rights. Even after the research was done, I found that putting my notecards together was a difficult task; taking all the ideas and making them flow as one was where I was getting stuck. But the hardest part of this whole journey was turning it in. After editing the final product multiple times I felt that this was the best work I could create with the time given, but I still could not help the nervous feeling. I continued to reassure myself from all the hard work and editing that my paper was going to be fine and in the end it paid off as I scored well on the research paper. After my research was over, she did not stop for nobody as she and her peers are continuing to make their mark on gender equality.
